When spring is in its early weeks, it’s always a bit confusing here in Toronto. You can leave the house in the morning, clenching your jacket while commuting in the chilly air but leave the office sweating because the sun is out in full force. One word: layers. Layers are your best friend when facing seasonal transitions in this city.

In anticipation of sunnier days ahead, I’ve been pinning up a storm and day dreaming of all the summer outfits I plan to put together this season. One thing most of these ensembles have in common are stripes. Perhaps it’s because stripes can make a plain outfit immediately look chic or maybe it’s because stripes are so effortlessly, Parisian-cool. Whatever it is, every summer, without fail, I am a sucker for stripes.

My advice for wearing stripes is, make your stripes your standout, statement piece. Pair stripes with fairly plain, solid colours to ensure your outfit doesn’t clash. Also, if you can find yourself a straw hat, a patio, and a glass of wine, you’ve added the cherry on top to your striped ensemble.
